Asthma
Having asthma is very scary. We have had to adapt our lifestyles considerably so that we don’t trigger asthma attacks, especially when medications aren't as effective for us as they are for other sufferers.
We have learned that in our case, several things trigger our asthma attacks.
• food intolerances; (including rice)
• insect bites;
• pollen;
• allergies;
• mold;
• dust-mites;
• animal dander;
• acid reflux;
• sulfites;
• preservatives such as sodium benzoate;
• MSG
We discovered that cow’s milk and cow milk products was a well known cause of asthma, so now we most people in our family only have goat’s milk which seems to be very good. We are very careful to eat a vegetarian diet and have very little processed food as we have to avoid the added chemicals.
We avoid the air-borne allergens listed above by wearing a good fitting pair of nasal filters and had to give away our pet dog. The cat had to stay outside as cat dander was a powerful asthma trigger. Birds also had to be removed out of the house.
After taking all these actions and increasing our Vitamin C and our Vitamin B3 intake according to this article: http://orthomolecular.org/library/jom/2002/pdf/2002-v17n01-p017.pdf
We found a product called Dial8, (from http://www.edenhealthfoods.com.au/ ) which is a liquid made mostly from herbs that cause a person’s lungs to expel mucus. This is an amazing product and we use it to clean out our lungs because it works so well for us. The doctor told us that he never heard one of our children’s lungs as clear ever before and the amount of mucus that the child coughed up was amazing. It was very different to the usual, non-productive cough of asthma.
After introducing these vitamin supplements, we found that we can now tolerate birds much better than previously. The new hypo-allergenic dog that we were given does not set off anyone’s reactive airways so the child who badly wanted a dog is now delighted to have one. Gradually more varied food types can be eaten which were previously not able to be on our menu. Nuts, legumes and grains are still totally out of the question for some of us who lack the necessary enzymes to digest them, or who are allergic to them, but at least having asthma attacks have greatly reduced in frequency and that is worth all the changes to us. Hopefully we’ll continue to grow stronger and healthier.

Here is what a child in our family wrote about her asthma attacks.
Mum always knows when I'm getting an asthma attack as my fingers start to go cold, before the mucus increases and the coughs start. These attacks are usually from acid reflux if I've eaten something that upsets my tummy. Mum always gets me to do 3 peak flow meter readings. If I'm at home, I find it helps to get into a hot shower first. Mum gets my different oils ready for me and then she warms up a small room with an oil heater. She rubs essential oils on my back, chest and neck while we sit in the heat for half an hour. I take my black seed oil capsules and aloe vera too. This treatment has worked even at times when I've said to Mum that I think this attack might end up needing another trip to the hospital. Of course, if it ever didn't work, Mum would waste no time getting me to the hospital, but so far, it's worked really, really well. It is best when we get the attack early. I think that's why Mum is always listening for me if I cough and feeling my fingers to check they're not going cold. If I cough with my asthma cough, she reminds me to "get into those oils." Since that paragraph was written, we discovered the amazing effects of Dial8, a herbal product that breaks down mucus and enables the mucus to be coughed up, so now our daughter makes sure that if she feels an asthma attack coming on, she takes her Vitamin B and Vitamin C supplements and takes her Dial 8. Dial8 is available through Eden Health Foods in Australia http://www.edenhealthfoods.com.au/
ALWAYS CARRY YOUR VENTOLIN/SYMBICORT
We ALWAYS carry Ventolin. While we hope it is the case, we will not take the chance that we will never suffer from asthma again. In an emergency we will use whatever it takes to survive. Our home remedies are not to be seen as taking the place of medical care, so please don’t assume that we would toss out the Ventolin or Symbicort. Anyone who has had real trouble breathing and has had to be admitted into emergency hospital care, would likely agree with us that even though we feel much better now, we must stay prepared and stay relatively near a hospital in case of have another asthma attack.
