Bladder/Cystitis
Cystitis or inflammation or infection of the bladder is not pleasant!
When any of us, particularly the ladies, notice the familiar twinge of pain when emptying the bladder, we waste no time heading for the pure, therapeutic grade Young Living essential oils oregano, thyme and marjoram or mountain savory.
We take 6 drops of both oregano and thyme and 3 drops of either marjoram or mountain savory in a capsule and take those oils with food or milk. We take them like antibiotics – twice a day for about 5 days. If in pain we can also take D-mannose which is a special kind of sugar that prevents the bad bacteria from attaching to the bladder walls. We found a good article about it here: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2011/04/20/a-simple-natural-treatment-for-urinary-tract-health.aspx . Then we drink some lemon juice to help make the urine less acidic and make sure we drink extra water. Most times, if we do these things, the bladder infection/inflammation is no longer an issue. If it was still a problem after 24 hours, I would be heading to the doctor’s for an antibiotics prescription, but it’s proven a very good help so far.
I would not suggest that other people take essential oils, even though they have been listed as GRAS (generally regarded as safe) by the FDA. My family and I are quite used to ingesting the oils, but we had to start taking them only using 1 drop per day to begin with and we always diluted the essential oils with pure vegetable oil such as cold pressed, virgin coconut oil or cold pressed, virgin olive oil. These pure essential oils that we take are very potent against microbes and must be respected. They can burn skin and if that happens to us, we always have a bottle of pure vegetable oil handy to dilute the oil and stop the burning. Water does not work to dilute the oil to prevent burning. It actually increases the burn as the water spreads the oil further over the skin. We found that only a fatty vegetable oil will dilute the essential oils and stop the burning, so we remember never to use water on an essential oil burn and we try to never get the essential oils in any sensitive areas such as mouth, ears, eyes or genitals. We have read medical studies on the oils and it seems that certain oils are okay to take internally occasionally, but not oils that have been chemically extracted using toxic solvents or certain oils that are just toxic to humans.
If the bladder is only inflamed and not infected, then usually the ‘cure’ is to drink a glass of lemon juice and then to increase the amount of water we drink.
Kidney Stone Pain
We have on at least 3 occasions, managed to escape the severe pain of kidney stones by taking 6 drops of Young Living lemon essential oil in a capsule, taken with either milk or food. Within 15 minutes, the pain was taken away. We are not sure why it happens, however it has not failed to work and to work very quickly. Suffering the pain of a kidney stone attack is strong motivation for us to want to know how to avoid a repeat episode.
